Today’s Money Mondays: Self-Forgiveness Starts with Acceptance!

(Photo on right by David Sand.  A great example of accepting my Light 🙂 )

Happy Monday everyone!

Starting this Spring, I’m offering an interactive & online Self-Forgiveness and Money group. So I started this blog post to put into practice some of the keys we’ll be doing in this awesome group!

For today, let’s take a look at acceptance. I did an interview with an incredibly successful realtor, Nick Segal. Nick is the President of Southern California for Compass, the #1 Independent Real Estate Company in the U.S.

He worked consciously with Self-forgiveness to manifest his success.  Nick shared how to be successful, he needed to forgive and let go of an old story from his childhood. Nick grew up without significant financial resources, and his mother committed suicide – and not long after, his father died of cancer.

Nick struggled with the shame and loss around his parents’ death, and his experience of having less money than the kids around him. He felt like he didn’t “belong in the room”.

The key, he said, was acceptance.  He needed to start by accepting the circumstances of his life and accepting that he brought value…and that he could serve people with it.

This is such a cool way of looking at acceptance – it’s accepting BOTH the things we don’t like and the gifts that we have to share.  Often easier said than done!

Nick illustrates a powerful approach to money by looking inside for his value and creating success through serving. He offers a simple, practical technique to forgive simply in slowing down to accept what is and connect with his own Light (as Rumi would say).

He shared how perceptions are not our reality.  Rather, they are how we try to make sense of the world.  And, we have the ability to question our perceptions, to forgive the judgments, and come into acceptance and neutrality.  This is a powerful place to live.

For me personally, I believed growing up that I was “less than” because my father left and mom had mental illness.  I allowed this belief to affect my relationship with my body, my partners, and money.  My fear was that “it” – love, money, etc. – will leave.  At some point, I realized that I was the one leaving me each time I judged.

Acceptance is one of the greatest keys to forgive these judgments and stand in the strength of who I am.  I’ve already done a LOT of work on this already.  And, I’m game to do more — to see the Light inside, accept it as a daily practice, and affirm it each night as I go to bed.  I’m excited to see the results!

That’s my assignment for this week.  I invite you to join me.

7-Day Acceptance Exercise:

When you wake up, center yourself. You can do this by breathing consciously and saying, “I am love.”  (Try putting your hand on your heart – it works!)

During the day, take a pause and breathe in your goodness. Say: “I accept and love myself as I am.” and “I accept what is.”

Before you go to bed, review your day. Accept situations, etc., where you’re not at peace. Acknowledge yourself for at least 3 things:  “I acknowledge myself for …..”

Feel free to let me know how it goes for you.  Comment below, or email me at info@forgivingconnects.com.

Have a wonderful week!  Much loving to all.

Love, Debbie

  1. Oh my goodness, Debbie! I have a post coming tomorrow that tells all who reads my words how I struggled with depression but no more because I accepted it as a part of me and I befriended it. (Depression represents one of my childhood demons.) I’ve been working towards my GOAL of accepting money for my photography but before I do that, my Inner Guidance has had me really focused on cleaning up the garbage within before that even happens. This is a powerful confirmation for me!! Bless you!! XOXO

    1. Thank you, Anne! So glad you listened and got value. I found it incredible too….so many keys to use Self-forgiveness to get free from childhood memories / stories. I also loved his questions to shift your money story and perceptions of your abilities!
God bless you Anne. Your comments contribute such wisdom on my blog.
      I love you,

  2. Beautiful post Debbie and amazing photograph of you. Pink is your colour hon! Acceptance is so key, isn’t it. I’ve been trying so hard to get closer to God recently, trying to meditate and think about God in everything I do, but I only ended up getting frustrated that I wasn’t there yet!! Glad I stopped by for some common sense writing from yourself. I’m gonna stop beating myself up and let go of this horrible nasty old habit of thinking I’m not good enough. I am good enough. I am more than good enough. Thank you, thank you Debbie. Keep up the good work, Anita. x

    1. Oh Anita, I’m so glad that this post was helpful. YES, acceptance is such a key to loving ourselves, to being good to ourselves, and so much more. Great to hear that you’ve been doing more meditation. And, I hear you re: the frustration.

  3. Such an interesting idea to consider, how our past affects us financially. Maybe I unknowingly hold myself back and have a hard time breaking through where we were at growing up. So much to consider and think about You are amazing, Debbie!!

    1. Hi Lacey, this is SUCH a good awareness. In my experience, old stories can have an effect on how we handle money … and how we handle money is a mirror for how we handle life! One of my greatest spiritual mentors John-Roger wrote a book called Money: The Great Mirror of Consciousness. To me, that’s so right on!

Let’s talk further if you want to. Lots of blessings your way,
      Debbie

    1. Isn’t it, Amy? To me, it’s an essential aspect of opening to greater abundance. That, and knowing that there’s a higher source for all things. Still working on it for me! Blessings to you, Amy. You’re great, I appreciate the comment and visit.
