Today’s Forgiving Fridays: Making Peace with My Mind!

Happy #ForgivingFridays everyone! Yay! This is an opportunity for you to let go and forgive.  You can do your post ANY DAY this week! Anything that inspires YOU to forgive and choose love – even if you’re struggling.  e.g., write a poem, share a quote or video, do an act of kindness, forgive yourself or someone else. 🙂 I look forward to see what you do!

Today’s Forgiving Fridays is Making Peace with My Mind.

If you read my post last week, I focused on happiness as a 7-day experiment!  I did one act each day to make me happy and rated myself on a 1 – 4 happiness scale.  Here’s my report (and why I write about making peace with my mind for this blog):

Firstly, I was pretty happy!  That’s a neat observation.  🙂  Almost every day, I rated myself as a 3 (somewhat happy) or 4 (super happy).

The one act I did each day is: to ask someone what forgiveness is for them and give myself a hug for my courage!  I LOVED doing this – it reminded me of happiness in that moment, and it also helped me to see the immense wisdom in the person in front of me.

Here are two responses from dear friends.

Anna:

“Forgiveness is a way to clear my consciousness of any blocks that I’ve placed between God and me, to clean my inner environment, to love myself and allow the love to come forward.”

Anna Forgiveness2 June 15 2018

David:

“Forgiveness is natural. It’s the way things are. I’m looking at the plants right now and see how they relate to each other, and the breeze. The relationship between the trees and the air, the way each one gives to the other.”

David Whitaker Forgiveness2 June 15 2018

I noticed how my mind can get into negative self-talk, telling me I’m not happy or something is wrong with me.

In my journaling, I realized especially how I got overwhelmed by what was going on, and tried to push down my emotions about that.  I learned how important it is for me to come present and be ok with what I’m thinking and feeling.  And to pause and connect with myself and give myself love.

Wow – I am so happy I did the experiment.  So much so that when I woke up this morning, I was so excited about #ForgivingFridays that I did a video before I took a shower!  I had messy hair, and I wasn’t sure what I was going to say.  Here’s what came out — a wonderful exercise to forgive:

I realized as I did the video, how much I forgive and love myself, and how I let my mind talk me into doubting myself.  And not acknowledging the good in my life.  And how I can choose to do it differently.

And I’m annoyed with my mind – does anyone relate to that?

Here is my forgiveness right now (I did this in the video too!): I forgive myself for judging myself for not wanting to forgive my mind.

Well, I just decided to continue my experiment.  I now have my focus for this week, which is making peace with my mind.  Each day I’m going to acknowledge myself FOR HOW AWESOME I am as a way to redirect my mind to the positive….and to give my mind a hug.  At night, I’ll rate myself on a simple 1 – 4 scale on “Making Peace With My Mind” and journal my learning and any forgiveness.

As I’m writing this, I almost started crying, because it doesn’t always feel easy to have such judgments.  And as I learned in my happiness experiment, I can simply accept myself as I am, and give myself love whatever I am thinking or feeling. And give myself a hug. 🙂

Keep me in your prayers for this week’s adventure!

I am SO SO grateful for all of you who contribute to Forgiving Fridays.  I learn so much from you!  Here are this week’s contributions:

Etta of Simply Etta D. gave us an open and honest exploration of depression and allowing for greater acceptance of what is present. What an inquiry on living into happiness!

DeB of Roaming Urban Gypsy contributed two blog posts on two cats she loves and her acrylic artwork as demonstrations of happiness. Such great reminders, DeB!

Miriam of The Shower of Blessings wrote a beautiful piece on the homeless cat who killed two mourning doves in her yard, and her caring and the conflict about that.  So appreciate you, Miriam!

Robin of Words for Life shared a poem of waiting in the stillness for the truth she seeks – such a great example of letting go.  So important for forgiveness!

Pragalbha of Infinite Living contributed her own quote and poem that illustrate the awareness of knowing that we are all that we seek. And that it is all here now!

Frank of Poetry, Short Prose and Walking gave us a great one-liner on the safe space of our heart to store what’s important for us.  It’s where happy-ness resides!

Anita of Healing Words shared an affirmation she says before meditating to help her experience inner peace. What a gorgeous prayer of forgiveness!

And in case you missed it  –

Revived Writer wrote a poem for #ForgivingFridays, where she shares the water of love, and forgiving even when we forget that.  Incredible!!

Lacey of Big N’ Pinky Toes blogged on her experience doing a forgiveness coaching session with me.  Lacey, you are so awesome!

****

I almost forgot to share what forgiveness is for me!  Here we go:

“Forgiveness is loving me, and opening to the love to guide me.  And to open to help along the way.”

Of all the things I’ve learned, Self-forgiveness is one of the greatest keys to love myself and see who I truly am.  It is such an act of self-love.

I love you.

Love,

Debbie

***This post is my contribution for Frank’s Challenge, Age. Frank, my two young friends shared such beauty in their definition of forgiveness – I learned a lot on how forgiveness is alive at any age.  Does it deepen with age?  A good question. 🙂 ***

  2. I am not sure about forgiveness deepening with age. In my experience, it deepens with practice. At any age. It is also one of THE greatest acts of self-love because there are times when it takes a great deal of loving. In fact, I would say that forgiving is one of the best keys for opening the door to love. And it comes with music, songs of the Soul.

  3. Thank you, Debbie, for this very timely post for me. My mind has been my number one enemy lately giving me no peace and much inner turmoil. I honestly don’t know what is going on for some of what is surfacing is about the past (of course) and what I am seeing makes my stomach sink. Now that I’ve read your post, I have much to forgive myself for which I have not done. I’m just so hard on me. In looking back, some of the things I have done are just so terrible, both intentionally and unintentionally. I am the one who has tears in my eyes now. Thank you and bless you for assisting me to tell my mind “no more” and to put time aside to extend to myself real forgiveness for those things that are torturing me right now. Ever since my Mom died, the damn broke and much garbage has poured forth. Again, no more. I cannot change the past. And if I am ever to attain my Peace of Mind, I must forgive myself TODAY. Love and many Blessings to you. 💞💞🌹💞💞

    1. AmyRose, I so hear you. Thank you for sharing your experience here, you are such a beautiful presence.

When I do forgiveness, I often start with a deep breath and simply accepting myself as I am. I offer that to you if it’s helpful. I’m happy to share more, if you’d like to email me (weloveyou@forgivingconnects.com).

Most of all, I honor this journey of Self-forgiveness that you are on, and I send you blessings of love, gentle kindness, and understanding every step of the way. Smiles and love — Debbie

      1. Debbie, I read your response yesterday. I took your words to Heart and for a large portion of yesterday I focused on telling me I am forgiving me. Life synchronicities never cease to amaze me for yesterday I received an email from a man telling me his wife is now deceased, a woman I knew here on WP. It was within his words where I saw the power of forgiveness in action. He had more then every right to be angry and to have lawsuits all over the place yet he has chosen to accept that nothing happens without a reason and this was his wife’s time to leave. He’s devastated of course and very lost, yet his courage made me even more determined to forgive myself.
I also thank you for your willingness to reach me through email. I have put your email addy into my contacts and if I am guided, will write. Many Blessings and Much Love to you, dear Debbie. Bless you for what you have given me. (((HUGS))) 🌹

  4. What a beautiful post, Debbie! I so relate to the troubles you’re having with your mind! I do that too and then I berate myself for doing it. Ah, those minds of ours. But forgiveness is the best medicine and I implement it more and more consciously in my life. I really want to contribute to your wonderful project and I promise I will as soon as I get the inspiration. Much love ❤

    1. Vilina, I’m so glad you commented – this is awesome. And yes, forgiveness is such a key to making peace with our minds. When I do and coach on forgiveness, the method I use is Self-forgiveness — where I forgive myself for placing a judgment. It’s so powerful. You may check out what you experience with that!

I’d love to see your contribution for #ForgivingFridays anytime, whenever your inspiration calls to you.

Many blessings, and have a great Sunday. Debbie

  5. I’ve heard about self-forgiveness and have read about it. I’ve also written on the subject. I feel called to look deeper into it – I feel the need to let go of a lot of mental rubbish and also find forgiveness for my parents. So expect a contribution soon 💜 So happy to have connected with you 🙂 Many blessings and have a wonderful week. Vilina
