Happy #ForgivingFridays everyone! Yay! This is an opportunity for you to share about forgiveness & post about it ANY DAY this week! See guidelines below. ❤ You can post whatever inspires YOU to forgive and choose love. Maybe it’s a poem, or a situation you’re struggling with, or a photo — or even a quote on forgiveness like one of this week’s contributors!, or you can share about travel like I did.
***This post is my contribution for The Daily Post’s Cloaked and Frank’s Challenge, Sand. Frank thanks for the inspiration to highlight the sands of time!***
Today’s Forgiving Fridays is What is Really Important?
I went on a two-week vacation to Spain and Portugal. It was amazing. The purpose was to bring Light and peace wherever we went.
I learned a lot about forgiveness by doing this.
One of the places we went was an old underground cemetery. There were graves everywhere – at our feet on each side – I was surrounded! As I walked, I saw a municipal worker renovating one of the tombstone faces. This scene struck me so strongly, and I began to wonder what in life is really important.
As I continued on the trip, I kept having experiences to guide me on what’s important. For example, here’s a photo of a dove in a church designated for Mother Mary. The beauty of this simple stained glass piece opened me to an awareness of peace.
All of this is helping me to ask myself, “What am I making more important than loving?” We have only so much time on this planet, and the little details of “I’m right” and “She’s wrong” fade in importance when I consider my own cemetery. All the judgments, the getting caught in my own mind – how much does that matter in the face of love?
There’s another way, one where I am choosing love over hate, compassion over blaming, and peace over conflict. Love heals all, if only I listen.
On this trip, I opened up to love and forgave a lot, especially around my partner (I traveled with him!) I learned how to take responsibility for my upset with him and with others. I also reached out to share my heart and had an amazing experience of connecting with my fellow travelers.
I didn’t always know how to forgive, I just let go and allowed love.
Forgiveness to me is a process of opening my heart, deciding to love, and speaking compassion and kindness. The simple words “I forgive myself” can bring in great peace. No matter what is going on outside of me, the forgiveness starts and ends with me. There is never a good enough reason to judge, withhold my loving.
THAT’S how I want to live.
What are you making more important than loving? Do you have something you’d like to let go of? This Forgiving Fridays, I invite you to forgive and let go, and to open to the immense gift that love has for you. ❤

I am grateful for all of you who contribute to Forgiving Fridays. I learn so much from you! Here are the contributions while I was on vacation 🙂 :
DeBorah of Roaming Urban Gypsy shared a group of photos that illustrate the creativity of New York that inspired forgiveness and peace in me.
Etta of Simply Etta D. contributed 3 awesome posts, all highlighting powerful ways to forgive and expand into who we truly are – here they are! Post 1 | Post 2 | Post 3
Stella of Giggles & Tales wrote a lovely post that illustrates the presence of peace and how each of us is so important to create what we want in life.
Anne of Beauty By A Dutch Girl chose an exquisite quote on how peace starts inside each one of us with a decision to forgive – so vulnerable and creative. Thank you so much. A first time contributor!
Xenia of Whippet Wisdom contributed a tanka (very cool poem) she wrote on love within our smiles. Gorgeous photo of her dogs to illustrate!
Pragalbha of Infinite Living wrote a beautiful poem on honoring the essence of who we are. Her poetry is lovely.
And in case you missed it:
Nikki of the newly-restored A Kinder Way contributed a great post on how she realized how much she loves “A Kinder Way” and self-forgiveness and kindness. Way to go, Nikki.

I’ll end today with fun photos of me with fellow travelers, plus a poem by Hafiz on how MAYBE we can take life so seriously. See below.
Have an amazing week! I love us all so much.
Love, Debbie
Here are the guidelines of #ForgivingFridays:
- Every day is Friday! Do a post today or anytime this week.
- Be creative – there’s LOTS of space for your expression! Write a poem, take a photo, post a quote, share your story … what opens your heart?
- Include #ForgivingFridays in your tags
- Create a pingback link to this post so I can find you.
- Have fun – you are awesome!!
Here’s the Hafiz poem on life ❤ :
TRIPPING OVER JOY
What is the difference
Between your experience of Existence
And that of a saint?
The saint knows
That the spiritual path
Is a sublime chess game with God
And that the Beloved
Has just made such a Fantastic Move
That the saint is now continually
Tripping over Joy
And bursting out in Laughter
And saying, “I Surrender!”
Whereas, my dear,
I am afraid you still think
You have a thousand serious moves.
~Hafiz
Welcome back! Glad to hear that you had a fruitful vacation. I also had a revelation and some introspective moments at the Evergreens Cemetery in Brooklyn. I spent two hours there last Saturday.
I have been going through a situation on my job that’s caused me to lose weight but I turned to God in prayers and began juicing. Sounds strange but helped me to cope.
I have a Praise Report to share with you privately.

This post really resonated with me. I love this question, “What am I making more important than loving?” How easy it is for me to get off track with thoughts and forget to put love first. Forgiving my failures is my way back to centering on love. Sometimes I put my foot in my mouth and I wrote a poem about this for Forgiving Fridays. Thank you Debbie for sharing your journey of forgiveness and creating a space to reflect. Sending love your way.

Oh Ali, I’m so glad that this post moved you! And that it gave you a safe space to reflect (so important ❤ ). I love that you are focusing on forgiveness through creativity. One thing you may consider is that you don't need to forgive your mistakes, rather you can forgive yourself for judging them as "bad" or "wrong". So it's the fact that we're judging in the first place that we can free ourselves from! Anyway, for your consideration, beautiful Ali. I LOVE LOVE LOVE your poem and thank you for contributing it for Forgiving Fridays!
Sending you blessings of joy and peace and a lot of happiness this weekend. ~Debbie 🙂

Thank you Debbie 💜 In March of this year Carpe Diem Haiku Kai dedicated the entire month to Persian Poetry, including the poetry of Hafiz. We were all invited to create haiku and tanka inspired by these poets and we posted quite a few between us. Have a wonderful weekend and a great new week! ☺💖 xxx

When I read your comment, I too took a deep breath and came present to how important it is to (a) be present & (b) to love! Thanks for that, Kathy. Have a gorgeous weekend, and ever so many blessings to you — Debbie ps: my spiritual mentor John-Roger wrote a great book called “Momentum: Letting love lead”. It really moved me.

Yes, and timely reminders that nudge us in the right directions in the form of posts like yours, help tremendously. It is not enough to ‘know’ this stuff when actually living it. Feeling supported with like-minded thinking helps the process.
My pleasure to be a part of your great work. Lots of love!
