Today’s Forgiving Fridays: Struggling with My Body

Happy #ForgivingFridays everyone!   Join with fellow bloggers & post about forgiveness ANY DAY this week!  You can post about your body like I did, or relationship, or you can even post something that opens you to love it.   Anything that opens you to forgive.  (See guidelines below ❤ )

***This post is my contribution for Frank’s Challenge, Steps & Nikki’s Creative Prompt, Persevere.  Frank and Nikki, I am taking my steps to take care of myself – I may not be singing joy today and I am persevering because I love myself.   It’s also my sharing for The Daily Post, Snack.

Today’s Forgiving Fridays is struggling with my body today.

Well, for Forgiving Fridays last week, I said how I was committing to writing in my journal each day with my food and forgiveness (how’s that – a “food and forgiveness” journal?!)

I’m happy to report that I’m doing it.  Every day, I am writing down each meal that I eat, and I am doing forgiveness and sometimes even saying I love myself. Right now, I’ve hit a snag.  I feel really full.

It’s easy for me to say I want to stop restricting food – and it’s another thing to tolerate the experience of my stomach being bigger.   Does anyone else relate to this?

I want to be really real in this journal, and what’s present right now is wanting to escape.  So I’m just going to get quiet for a moment to be with myself.  (pause) Time for forgiveness:

I forgive myself for judging myself for feeling really fat.

What is underneath that?

I forgive myself for judging myself as unlovable.

That fits better.

One of the big reasons I went into forgiveness work is because I had an eating disorder and have worked my process SO MUCH to get to a place of loving myself.  Right now, I’m not feeling it.  And do you know what? That is ok.    I’m so committed to continuing to eat well – and writing in this journal.  For today, this is love.

I am grateful for all of you who contribute to Forgiving Fridays.  I learn so much from you!  Here are this week’s contributions:

Etta of  Simply Etta D. gave us a beautiful invitation to know we deserve happiness.

Stella of Giggles and Tales shared fantastic tips on how to look at pain and open our hearts.

And from last week (just in case you missed them!) ….

Myonelife.today wrote an exquisite post on healing her relationship with her dad as he was dying.

Nikki of Flying Through Water shared a courageous post on her willingness to forgive in a new way!

DeBorah of Roaming Urban Gypsy wrote a beautiful blog with a video quotes on forgiving from our hearts.

    1. Anne, I started crying when I watched this! This is the truth & why I do what I do:
      “All you need is love”
“There’s nothing you can do, but you can learn how to be you in time.”
“There’s nowhere you can be that isn’t where you’re meant to be.”

Forgiveness is love — I forgive myself to love myself & so love sharing it with others to help them do it in their own way!!

Today: I love me and I love my body too.
      🙂 Debbie

    1. This is beautiful. You have such a way of seeing the peace and loving. Thank you for sharing that! Your blog is awesome.

By the way, your comment reminded me just how much I am aware to eat and support myself now, how good is that?
      Have a blessed weekend.

  1. Learning to love yourself takes time. I mostly do love myself but still get stuck at times. Look for the what you love in others. Can you find those same loveable qualities in yourself? This could be a new way to access love for yourself. I posted today in honor of Forgiving Fridays. Thanks for standing up for forgiveness and sharing your journey to inspire others. Love to you. https://flashlightbatteries.blog/2017/06/30/let-it-go/

    1. Ali, thank you. Both for the suggestions which I love & also for your poem. It is beautiful. You stand up in forgiveness with your creativity and open heart. I am inspired by you. And I so hear you that sometimes you feel stuck. To me, that’s one of the great gifts of blogging – so that we can connect and support and lift each other in love. 🙂

Sending you blessings, Ali. Happy Sunday!! Debbie

    1. Wow I love this French quote. And THANK YOU for tagging me in your post. So lovely to get to know you better.

Going forward, contributions for Forgiving Fridays are really a way to share your experience with forgiveness (rather than a tag or award). Thank you again for thinking of me – I’m touched and honored.

Many blessings … have a beautiful and joyful week. 🙂 🙂 Debbie

  2. Hello dear Debbie…
I think this post is one of the most raw I’ve read from you…it’s like a stream of consciousness where your thoughts have floated out of your heart and onto the ‘page’…
Thank you for sharing the struggle with an eating disorder…we love you all the more for being vulnerable with us about it. We all have struggles in one way or another so you are not alone.
As you said, sitting with how you feel and gently loving yourself through your feelings, like you are your own best friend… no judgments… just ‘what is’ right now…
    will help so much.
Sending you love and may you feel blessed, dear Debbie 💐💕💕

    1. Di, your comments are like a big warm hug reaching across the ocean. So glad that this post touches you. What is right now is: I am smiling with the connection that we share. 🙂 🙂 🙂 One of the things I’ve learned (and continue to practice) is how our bodies are divine temples for taking excellent care of …. my struggles with food just bring it home to me that much clearer.

Have a great week, Di. Sending you many blessings!!! Debbie

ps – I’m about to go to a gathering called a BlessingsFest. A part of my intention is to get really clear on how to be gentle, nurturing and loving to my body as this temple! Yes. ❤

      1. Hello lovely,
Such a beautiful response to my comment. Thank you so much Debbie…🌹
Yes, this post taught me something new about you and your journey and your honesty has most likely touched and helped many in a similar situation with food and body image. And isn’t this the brilliant part about blogging our inner thoughts?
BlessingsFest sounds like a lovely gathering of like minded spirits and I hope you receive much goodness from attending. Thank you for letting me know.
So happy with our connection too, my dear Debbie.
Take care, and keep showing yourself patience and acceptance.
Much love and a hug from Di 🌈💕🌈

  3. I got so caught up in following all the links listed above I forgot to post a comment 😉

I remember struggling with weight issues in my teens. It came when I busted the hook on my uniform skirt in High School, puberty had finally caught up with me and my body wasn’t burning all the junk food the way it did before, it stored it instead. The started my fad diet phase that went on literally for the rest of my life because now it’s indulging in comfort eating which I’m trying hard to combat. I joke now and say “I wish I were as skinny as I was when I thought I was FAT.” There were times I looked in the mirror and felt was sick of what I was seeing and disgusted at myself for being so fat. It took me a long while to move past that, whenever I feel myself slipping, I get dressed up even if I’m not going anywhere or dance to my favourite music. Thank you, Debbie, for keeping me on the path of forgiveness, it’s the only way forward no matter how deep in despair you are. Forgiveness is the key to get out! xxx

    1. Oh EttaD, thank you for sharing this. I am touched by your experience, and I can relate. To me, one of the great blessings of blogging is that we can come together and share and support one another. I love your method of dressing up to help you forgive and let go of judgment. That is beautiful!!! What a great way to move in a more uplifting (and fun) direction.

One of the things I do is to love it all. To love the judgment. To love the food. To love my body. And to love my thoughts and feelings. That’s a great reminder today, actually.

Thanks Etta D for being here. Sending you so much joy on your self-forgiveness with your body and I love you. ~Debbie

      1. You’re most welcome. It’s takes each one to reach one and I’ve found even if you don’t share the same experiences as someone else. There’s always a lesson to be learn in their message.

But I’m no longer surprised at how much we as human beings, no matter the background or where in the world we are, how much alike we are in chance and circumstances 🙂
xx ❤ Sending you you much Love across the miles.

  4. One of many ways I Celebrate My 50+ body is Through Sartorial Splendor. My goal is to break down stereotypes of Women Over 50 and help all Ladies to unleash a Boldness through eclectic clothing. Outfits can be very uplifting to the spirit. Obviously I’ve got some Jelly Rolls going on but you know I’m happy with me and how I look. I’m bold in trying new looks by adding some bright colored lipstick and various colors of mascara. Here are some photos I took in Spring.
