Today’s Forgiving Fridays: Mom Showed Me The Way

Happy #ForgivingFridays everyone!  Join with fellow bloggers & post about forgiveness ANY DAY this week!  It can be a poem, short story, photograph, video, personal sharing , or  anything that opens you to forgive.  (See guidelines below ❤ )

Today’s Forgiving Fridays is Mom Showed Me The Way.

I am putting something out today that I haven’t really shared.  My mom was killed by someone.

I am sharing this, not for your sympathy, or for your attention.  Rather, I’m sharing it because I want you to know that it is a big part of why I do this forgiveness work.

The way my mom’s death happened opened me to a whole new level.  What if, in truth, there is nothing that is inherently right or wrong, or good or bad, instead it is our thinking that makes it so?  Even with my mom’s dying at the hand of someone else.

And that truly, there is a peace beyond those dualities where our freedom lies.

Mom Showed Me The Way Rumi June 16 2017Rumi has a quote, “Out beyond ideas of wrong-doing and right-doing, there is a field. I’ll meet you there.”

Life is too short to hold back.  It is too short to say, “How could you do this?!”  What if that field, oh what if it were love?

I can open to that possibility.  And THAT is why I do this forgiveness work.

I’ve had an old track playing for years of “I’m not worthy of love.”  Each time I do this, I am killing myself slowly.  Time for forgiveness:

I forgive myself for judging myself as wrong for wanting my mom back.  I forgive myself for judging myself for thinking I am not worthy of love.  I forgive myself for judging my mom’s killer as anything less than divine and worthy of loving too.

The truth is: We are all divine beings having a human experience.   The truth is, I may not know exactly what love “is” and what I do know is that I am a beautiful Soul.  And so are we all.

Can you open to the possibility of loving someone that you never thought possible?  Please share if you would in the comments below.

Last week, four bloggers contributed to Forgiving Fridays:

DeBorah of Roaming Urban Gypsy wrote a beautiful blog with quotes on compassion and forgiveness

Etta of  Simply Etta D. gave powerful tips on the freedom to choose happiness, gratitude, forgiveness.

Nikki of Flying Through Water shared a courageous post on her heartfelt dream to write a book.

New!  I found a post by Stella of Giggles and Tales with a vibrant photo and great focus on peace instead of worry.

I love you.

Love,

Debbie

ps – I got my very first Forgiveness Coaching business cards in the mail today.  Mom, I am standing in the knowing that the love and compassion you showed me is eternal truth.

***This post is my contribution for Frank of Dutch Goes the Photo’s Challenge, Unusual.  Frank, for maybe the first time in my life, I am standing in what I know to be true.  (With my Aussie Outback hat on!)  It’s also my contribution to The Daily Post’s challenge, Focus.  And for the first time, I’m contributing to Nikki’s Creative Prompt – Love!  Nikki, thank you for helping me open to love … it is one of my deepest prayers.  ❤

  1. Your dear Mom. How precious is she. And how precious you are. Actually, we all are. The apartment block fire in London last week reminded me how very precious is each human life.

  2. Love and light to you and your mother. My mother died at her own hand, with a gun in it. So I understand how a violent death can be overwhelming. It takes courage to lift from tragedy. I pray you are moving more into your spiritual warrior heart.

  3. I must applaud you for the steps you are taking towards true healing through the process of forgiveness. You have adopted a good lifestyle, Debbie. 🙂 Holding on to grudges does more harm than good to the human psyche. And forgiveness is freedom for the soul.

May your Mom’s soul rest in peace. Wishing you God’s love and grace. Xo

  4. Sorry to find out about your Mom. It’s hard to forgive, yet you’re doing a beautiful job. Your forgiveness may not make a dent in the killer’s life, but it sure makes a big difference in your life that you’re free from holding the resentment that might eat you up. Good job, Debbie! May you find peace, and RIP for your Mom!

  5. Dear Debbie, your post is a very precious one. There is so much power and peace in your perspective. I feel so much resonance with the questions …what if there is no good, bad, right, wrong. That Rumi’s quote has guided so many of my ways of Being. I wish lot of power, peace, ease, joy and love to your beautiful soul.

  8. What a profound and starkly beautiful thought…that there is no judgement when it comes to divine beings experiencing being human here on Earth…mistakes will be made and we are not privy to everyone’s story. My heart goes out to you and your Mom…thank you for sharing and reminding us to pause (always!) before judging.

  9. Hello dear Debbie… thank you for being so honest and open about what happened to your mum. I cannot begin to understand what you would be feeling. But it was awe inspiring to read that you forgive the person who did this to your mum. This shows such strength of character and the beautiful, accepting and loving person you are.
Another heartfelt piece of writing as an example of forgiveness for self and others.
The rumi quote is a lovely, thought provoking one too, Debbie.

That’s such a beautiful thing to know. You really mean what you say and that’s very special about your mum, Carole. In that case, I probably would love her too. I was always one for noticing and watching people’s mums…

I know you do your best and you keep inspiring and encouraging us to do so as well. You are a very special person with so much to offer and I really hope you fully understand that one day very soon.

  14. Oh Debbie. You are so strong and wonderful. Bless you.

To answer your questions, no I can’t imagining loving someone I never thought possible, even if on an intellectual level I know it would be the right thing to do and even good for myself. I’ve mentioned old wounds to you before. I don’t know how to forgive if they keep getting reopened by the some person/people.

  17. Debbie,
It takes a lot of wisdom to rise above tragedy and see the light. I’m sorry to hear about your mother. I’m sure that she is happy that you are choosing forgiveness as it takes the burden off of your soul. That was a strong trait of my grandmother’s. She was wise to impart it to me, but I am still learning. 🙂 I love that Rumi quote. So beautiful. Many hugs and blessings. -Amy
